Are you having trouble getting hits? Confused or desperate? This page is for you!

Getting More Hits/Members:

Everybody who has a website has this problem in the beginning, and later on if they don't update. So if you just opened a website and is having trouble moving up in topsite lists and such, don't give up. Because there will always be a time when you feel like #1!

One of the most important things in owning a website is to have a good, neat layout that is both easy to navigate and interesting/unique. What does this mean? Use nice, easy-to-see colors. Bright pink, electric blue, or super light colors will be eye-hurting, and visitors won't like it. The unique part is about drawing your own layout. Having someone else make your layout for you is okay, but it'll be their style, not yours. Remember, you have thumbs! It's what separates you from the squirrels! XDD

Having enough content is the second thing. People will get bored easily with only a few pages to see. Small sites have about 30 pages and content, and large sites can have as much as more than 100. The point is, create pages, make them long with info, fun, creativity, etc. You might also want to make pages that are completely devoted to fun, like a website game or a quiz. Creative pages rock!

Finding Affiliates:

Affiliates are essential if you want a popular website. They are like partners on the Internet, and you could call affiliation advertising for each other. They help you gain hits because they will have your button or link up on their website, and when other people visit them, they will see the button/link and click on it to see your website.

NOTE: Link has too meanings. Some affiliates only display links and not buttons, but the other type of linking is displaying a link to another site, but is not really affiliating because they don't have the link to your site.

Good affiliates have webmasters who update at least a couple of times a month, have control over themselves, generally use good grammer, and is nice to people. Don't affiliate with websites that use CAPITAL LETTERS ALL THE TIME. Unless with good reason, that is considered yelling. (Don't get this confused with exaggerating a word.) These are some things you should check for a good affiliate:

  • They have a nice webmaster/webmistress. ^^
  • They have about as many pages or more as you do.
  • They generally use correct grammer/spelling.
  • They are not cheating their affiliates by not displaying their buttons/links.
  • They are updating under the time period of your standards.
  • Make sure that YOU trust the website and webmaster/webmistress!

Things to remember are that you will have a much bigger chance of affiliating with a website that's about as big as you or have about the same number of unique hits a day. That doesn't always mean that bigger sites won't affiliate with you! Just try! ^__^

Looking For the Best Web Materials:

Can't find good forums? Or tagboards? Don't have a guestbook? Well, the best thing to do is try to find them on Google. Or you can look at the Resources page in Eonlight Valley and see if that helps you. Don't pick any free thing. Some of them may contain many pop-ups and huge banners. And some might have limits, too, that are not enough for you. So before you sign up, read the "Services" page, etc., and see what they have to offer. When you find the one you like, then sign up and put it on your website. That way you'll save more time instead of trying everything, and you won't have to waste work on nothing.

Finding the Right Webhost:

Have you tried tons of webhosts and liked none of them? That's probably because you're rushing to get a website. Don't go through with every host to check out how it is. As I mentioned earlier, read the "Services" page or whatever the name is and scan through their list of offers. You should make sure of these things:

  • There's enough web space for your website.
  • There are no pop-ups/banners if you don't want any.
  • They support SSI, PHP, or whatever you need.
  • Pages load fast enough for you.
