..:: Gaming Tips ::..

Okay, so I'm not one of those superduper Lv.100 trainers, but I do know enough to finish a successful game. Well, I suppose I can give others some tips...if it helps or not.

Training Pokemon
Now, is this the most boring thing or what? Endlessly encountering wild ones and battling trainers, endlessly watching that skinny little EXP. meter go up. "I'm so bored...I'm not training anymore!" Isn't that what you wish to say? Well, here's some advice. First of all, you know it's way better to train along the way than to train in a certain amount of squeezed-in time. What do I mean by "train along the way"? First up--never ever skip Trainers unless all your Pokemon are low on health. Though it may take up a little of your time, Trainers on Routes totally give you more EXP. than wild Pokemon, and believe it or not, if you fight every trainer, you're bound to level up. Second of all, set level goals for gyms. Sure, you can challenge a gymleader any time if you feel up to it, but if you can train your party to one or two levels above the to-be challenged gymleader's strongest Pokemon--well, let's just say you're a good step ahead! (Oh yeah: don't skip gym trainers either!) And the last thing is...always train your Pokemon evenly! Every type of Pokemon has a weakness, and if you're only making one Pokemon strong, you'll have a tough time if that Pokemon comes to a type disadvantage.

Building An Effective Team
How do you build a team that will be effective against any opponent? Well, obviously you'll have to have your Pokemon of all different types. It's about impossible to have Pokemon of every type in your team, because you can only carry with you six Pokemon, but there's several main types that you may definitely want. They include: Electric, Fire, and Water. Tell you what: in all the Pokemon games I've ever played, my Manetric (Electric-type), has always been one of my strongest and reliable Pokemon. Electricity is great! :3 Anyway, back on track here...So the point is, train Pokemon of all different types. If you want maximum power, give each of your Pokemon an attack that's super effective against their weakness. That way, you'll not get stuck with too much super effective hits coming from an opponent. Secondly, don't forget: move types that correspond to the user gives the attack an extra 1.5 damage. So if you had a Dragon-type Pokemon, its Dragon-type attacks will gain x1.5 damage.

Power-ups And Rare Candies
$9800??!!! OUTRAGE!! XD Okay, so this may come easy to those people who have an Amulet Coin and or battle every trainer they see, but it really does use up plenty of money. The power-ups I'm talking about include Protein, Calcium, Zinc, Iron, and Carbos (did I miss any?). They permanently boost the status of your Pokemon. Protein boosts attack, Calcium boosts special attack, Zinc boosts special defense, Iron boosts defense, and Carbos boosts speed. Never ever throw these items out! Use 'em instead. Of course, you wouldn't want to spend $9800 all the time on these items, but here's a much better deal: if you're playing Emerald, the Battle Frontier lets you exchange Battle Points (BP) for dolls and such. You can also exchange BP for power-ups. And the cost? Only 1BP each! Believe it or not, to me that's a pretty good trade, if you aren't saving up for a humongous doll.
Rare Candies are awesome. They immediately increase a Pokemon's level by one. But you must use them wisely! How? Save up your Rare Candies from the beginning. Put them in your PC. As your Pokemon grow stronger, they'll need more EXP., and eventually it'll take longer to train them. When they're at really high levels (like Lv.70), you can use Rare Candies on 'em if you really need to. Another thing to watch out for is your Pokemon's EXP. meter. Use a Rare Candy on it only if it's low, otherwise it won't be worth it, because it's so close to the next level. If I were you, I'd save all my Rare Candies till Pokemon League time. But that's just me.

Help Resources For You
If you're terribly stuck on your game and you need a guide, or if you're just looking for something, there are plenty of websites to go to. Or, you can buy one of those official Nintendo guide books. On the web, Pokemon fansites usually offer information on the Pokemon RPG games. Many offer cheats, hints, and great advice. Some have really cool walkthroughs with screenshots. They're always helpful if you don't feel like completing the game by yourself.
What websites should you go to? Well, there are lots. Take Eonlight Valley for example. We have guides all over the "Games" section--including this! Other great websites are:

--Pokemon Nightmare
--Serebii.net
--Cave of Dragonflies
--Seafoam Islands

Visit any one of the above and you'll find great info! And then, there's the bigger ones:

--Gamewinners.com

I REALLY recommend Gamewinners.com.

About Cheating
Yeah, I agree...cheating is sort of fun, because you don't have to do so much work. Personally, I have NEVER used any sort of Gameshark code or some trick, but sometimes you have to in order to gain a certain item/Pokemon. And that's perfectly fine! Don't feel guilty or of being a loser. Using cheats is okay, as long as you enjoy the game! ^__^
