..:: Emos and Internet Terms ::..

Ever wondered what those crazy combinations of letters and numbers people use on the Web? (Ex: XD or >D) The easy ones, :) and ;) related, are pretty simple to understand. To look at any emo on this page, tilt your head to the left and look at them that way.

Emo (Emoticon)
Meaning
XD This is used to express laughter at something pretty funny or weird.
x3 or X3 Can be used to express embarrassment, or when you're excited or happy.
>D A rather "evil"-looking emo, it can be viewed as evil laughter. Since it's impossible to have two "eyes" as in the case of this: ^_^, one "eye" is used.
>3 Used frequently to express agreement.
=O The "=" sign represents two open eyes, and this emo is used when you're surprised at something, or gasps at something.
=D Similar to the one above, with "eyes" also opened, this one expresses happiness and joy.
D= **This emo should be viewed by tilting your head to the right instead of left. It shows sadness, the opposite to the one above>
>_<;; or >_> or <_< Luckily, these emos are easy to understand and you don't have to tilt your head. They obviously look like anger, and the semicolons are sweatdrop things to express furiousness.
@_@ You can look at this one upright. It shows annoyance.
^__^ or ^^ I'm sure this one isn't difficult. It's happy!!
^_~ A wink! No need to tilt your head for this one.
>:) This is an evil look.
;_; No need for head-tilting for this emo. This represents crying or sadness.
-_- or -_-;; These can be viewed upright, and they usually express boredom.

Web Term
Meaning
When something is put between *s. Ex: *sigh* When something is between asterisks (*), it means an action is being taken. If I put *smile*, it'll mean I smiled.
Subsituting numbers for letters Spammers usually like to do this, and typing things like this looks really noobish. Some common examples are: ph34r for "fear" and n00b for "noob".
lol I'm sure most people know this one. It stands for "laugh out loud".
brb Another common one, this means "be right back", commonly used in Instant Messages (IMs).
