..:: The Eeveelutions ::..

As most of you may know, Eevee is a unique Pokemon that can evolve into five different Pokemon two different ways: elemental stones and friendship. All the "Eeveelutions" are explained below.

Note: RBY refers to Red/Blue/Yellow, RSE refers to Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, GSC refers to Gold/Silver/Crystal, and FR/LG refers to FireRed/LeafGreen. All these are Pokemon Gameboy Advance (GBA) games. I don't think the GameCube games need to be explained: you start off with Eevee or it's evolutions.

||Eevee||Jolteon||Flareon||Vaporeon||Espeon||Umbreon||Leafeon||Glaceon||

Eevee
Type: Normal

You can only get Eevee once in the games RBY and FR/LG. Both are in the Celadon Mansion, the topmost floor. In GSC, you get it from Bill in Goldenrod City. Eevee can be evolved with stones and friendship in RSE (trade).

Jolteon the Electric Evolution

Jolteon evolves from Eevee by use of a Thunderstone. The easiest way to get one is to buy one from the Celadon store (RBY and FR/LG) or the Lilycove store (RSE). In RSE, you can also find Yellow Shards on the watery routes near Mossdeep, Lilycove, and Sootopolis to trade for a Thunderstone. In GSC, if you get the phone number of the girl on the route between Ecruteak and Olivine, she may sometimes call you to give you a Thunderstone. Jolteon has high Speed and Special Defense, but low Attack, Defense, and HP.

Flareon the Fire Evolution

A Firestone used on an Eevee will evolve it into the Fire-type Flareon. You can get Firestones in the Celadon and Lilycove Department Stores (RBY, RSE, FR/LG), and in RSE by trading Red Shards to the shard collector by Mossdeep City. In GSC, if you get the phone number of the school boy near the Sudowoodo, he may call you to give you a Firestone. Flareon has high Attack and low Defense.

Vaporeon the Water Evolution

Eevee will evolve into a Vaporeon with use of a Waterstone. You can buy one in the Celadon/Lilycove Department Stores (RBY, RSE, FR/LG), and trade for one by giving Blue Shards to the shard collector in RSE. In GSC, if you get the phone number of the fisherman west of Mahogony, he may call you to give you a Waterstone. Vaporeon has high Special Defense and HP, but low Attack, Defense, and Speed.

Espeon the Psychic Evolution

You cannot use an elemental stone to evolve Eevee into an Espeon. The only way for it to evolve is with friendship. That means training it a lot, putting it at the head of your team for a while, and not letting it faint so much. As it levels up, etc., it'll like you more and more. When your friendship reaches the needed height, if it's daytime (before 6 PM), Eevee will evolve into an Espeon. This is the same in GSC and RSE. Since you can obtain an Eevee in FR/LG but there's no time in those games, you'll have to trade the Eevee over to your RSE so it can evolve. Espeon is not obtainable in RBY. It has high Speed and low Attack, Defense, and HP.

Umbreon the Dark Evolution

Umbreon evolves the same way as Espeon does, but at night (after 6 PM) instead of day. That means that Eevee can only evolve into Umbreon in GSC and RSE, the only games with a clock/watch/etc. Same as Espeon, Umbreon is unobtainable in RBY. It has high Defense, but low Speed and Special Defense.

Leafeon the Grass Evolution

Leafia, an Eeveelution of the 4th generation, can be obtained in Diamond/Pearl leveling up at Moss Rock. Its Ability is unique, allowing it to be healed of any status effect whenever Sunny Day is in effect.

Glaceon the Ice Evolution

Glacia, like Leafia, belongs to the 4th generation. It can be obtained in Diamond/Pearl by leveling up at Ice Rock. Its Ability, Snow Hide, makes its Evasion rise during a Hailstorm.

Which one is the best?

Well, that mostly depends on you. You may like a certain one of the Eeveelutions, or you may not want Eevee to evolve (though you should). Since Eevee can evolve into so many different types, you should look at your team and see which type you want or is lacking. For example, if you didn't have a Fire-type and needed one, you might want to go with Flareon.

Looking at it statswise, I'd say that you should go with one that has good/normal Speed. If you're very rich, you can buy those boost-ups ($9800) to raise stats of the Eeveelution you chose that are lacking in one sort or another.

Espeon/Umbreon are sort of harder to get than the three others, since you have to go through much more processes, whereas all you have to do is to buy and use an elemental stone for Flareon, Vaporeon, and Jolteon.
